iPad Basics - Day 3 featuring Calendar and Contacts

Powerful apps today - Calendar and Contacts. Notes if there is time.

Carol introduced Contacts 

Contacts is an important app that helps connect you to many other apps. 

Find the address book icon and tap to open

Add new Contact CARD with + opens template > fill-in fields (First, Last, Company)
  • Phone has options (mobile, iPhone, home, work …)
  • Email options (home, work, iCloud)
  • Ringtone sounds & Text sounds
  • Birthday & other dates
  • Related has options
  • DONE to finish
Use Search to find Contact Card for your entries
Notes field can hold lots of details
Add photo of person or Memoji image

Alternative way to add a Contact Card
  1. Open Mail app to a message from someone
  2. Open email message > Tap and Hold on name at top of message > Contact template opens to start a new card 
Important #1
Create a card for YOURSELF
Settings > Contacts > My Info > search for your Card 
Now, you can add other relationships - work, siblings, parents, children, etc. Then ask Siri to call your sister ... use your iPhone to get directions to  ... 

When you are out about - ask Siri to give you directions home.

Health app > Medical ID > Edit > add Emergency Contacts 

Tips for Contacts 
  • Company field without a name
  • Name and “Bookclub” in Company field - Search on Bookclub to show list 
  • Street - enter all info on 1 of the street fields
  • If a person changes email address, Apple will remember and keep offering to send to old email address. Add date in Notes field on when email address changed.
  • Make a email group in Contacts on Mac computer then can be used on iPad. Also open iCloud and add New Group - good for Windows and iPad users
  • Share Contact Card via AirDrop, Message or Mail 
  • Left panel has alphabetical list of all contact cards 
  • Contacts do not take up much space on your iPhone or iPad - add lots of names & businesses 

Group FaceTime > open Messages > open text thread for the group > scroll to the top of text list and tap on names to reveal Audio - FaceTime - Info > Tap FaceTime (only Apple devices)
