Dear Apple Fans,
Welcome to the iPhone Basics seminar for Fall 2014. We are scheduled to meet on Fridays for six weeks, September 5 through October 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Eureka 113. In the first session, we will go over the agenda for the six weeks so you will know what to expect. We have a number of returning iPhone Fans so we will have great resources for our “hands on” practice time.
WiFi: We are accessing WiFi on campus a little differently this year. You will all have access to WiFi when you are on campus, but each week you will have to log in to SacLink and select Guest to activate WiFi for a limited period.
The system will automatically log you off after two hours (we are hoping to increase the time to four hours), but you can immediately sign in again for another period of time. The good news is that you do not need a password to log on, only your email address is required. One less thing to remember!
Apple ID: For those who do not yet have an Apple ID, please secure one before class. It is easy to do. Go to www.apple.com and select Support from the menu on the top of the home page. Once in the Support section of the Apple website, you will see an icon with the title, Apple ID. Tap it and follow directions for setting up your Apple ID. It is important to have one so you can download apps and access iTunes and iBooks.
iOS Update: While we are awaiting the launch of iOS 8 soon (the update for the Apple Operating System), your iPhone software should be operating with iOS 7.1.2. To check to see if you are up to date, tap the Settings icon (the gray icon that looks like a gear). Once in Settings, tap General on the menu bar, and then Software Update. If you are not operating with iOS 7.1.2, you will be directed to install it.
If you are confused about any of the above, don’t worry, we will go over this during the first meeting. If you have any problems, we will be in the classroom 15 minutes prior to the start to assist you in getting started.
Looking forward to seeing you September 5th,
Nancy Findeisen, Karen Roseland, and Stan Todd
